Positions during pregnancy

Author: Pamfan

Particularly during the latter stages of pregnancy the missionary position can become uncomfortable since it puts pressure on the woman’s growing belly. Below are some suggestions.

Woman on top: The woman lowers herself onto the man, either facing him or turned to face his feet. This position can be comfortable throughout pregnancy. It puts no pressure on her belly, and gives the woman control over the depth of penetration and the thrusting.

Woman on back: Though most missionary positions are not comfortable for an expecting mum, this one can be. The woman lies on her back, knees drawn back and open with feet resting on the man's chest, or with her legs straight up and resting on him. The man kneels between your legs to enter you, so there is no weight on your abdomen. It may help to put a pillow under your bottom.

Side by side: the couple lie side by side, facing each other. The woman can drape her leg over the man’s body. Another good choice for late pregnancy, though this position does not allow for much movement and it may be difficult for your partner to achieve orgasm.

Rear entry and Anal Sex: The woman can be on all fours on the bed, staying steady, or leaning down onto pillows with the man kneeling and entering her from behind. Or, try bending over the bed (supported as needed by pillows) with the man standing and entering from behind. This position allows the man to thrust deeply, so be sure to tell him what is comfortable for you. If you both enjoy anal sex then this is also safe and causes no direct harm to the baby.

Sitting: In this position, you straddle your partner while he is sitting on a sturdy, comfortable chair or on the edge of the bed. You can also sit in an armchair, upright or leaning back slightly, with your legs around your partner, who is kneeling in front of you.

Use of a vibrator: Although I’m not aware of any controlled studies it is highly unlikely that the use of a vibrator would cause any pregnancy problems and achieving an orgasm can be a great release for a woman during pregnancy.
